Reading the table

* USAA posted the highest claims score, 757 of 1,000, but J.D. Power leaves it unranked because membership is limited to military families. Among carriers open to everyone, Liberty Mutual (722) and Nationwide (720) sit clearest above the 702 study average. † Liberty Mutual’s complaint figure comes from a 2026 review aggregation rather than a per-entity NAIC page; treat that one cell as lower confidence. ‡ AM Best downgraded State Farm’s main entities from A++ to A+ in November 2025 after five straight years of underwriting losses, and rates State Farm General, the California home insurer, B (Fair). A complaint index above 1.00 means more complaints than expected for the carrier’s size; below 1.00 means fewer.

Methodology

The order is the J.D. Power 2026 U.S. Property Claims Satisfaction Study score, a survey of 5,093 recent claimants fielded December 2024 to December 2025 and released March 17, 2026. The NAIC complaint index compares a carrier’s share of closed complaints to its share of premium: 1.00 means complaints match market size. AM Best ratings are the group or lead-entity financial strength rating from the most recent 2025 or 2026 rating action, with the action date shown. Market share is the homeowners multiple peril line from the official NAIC 2025 market share report. Where a cell could not be verified against a named source, it does not appear on this page. Scores are copied, never adjusted; the editorial judgment here is which public data deserves the ordering, and that choice is stated openly: claims behavior first.
