Who we are
The Peril Desk is an independent publication. We publish documented insurance stories, with receipts: what a policy said, what a carrier did, and what the gap between the two cost a real household.
No stock photos, ever. What you see on a page is a document, original art made for that story, or nothing. Every piece of art is captioned as art, never presented as a photograph of the real event. A site about paperwork earns its trust by showing the paperwork, and by being honest about which images are illustration.
How we make money
How we make money: partners pay us a flat fee when a reader clicks through to compare quotes. Every partner pays the same flat fee, so no link earns more than any other and no commission can move a ranking. Rankings and stories are finished before any partner sees them.
Here is the process behind that paragraph. The rankings desk scores carriers against the published weights and closes the table. Only then does the partnerships desk tape partner links onto the finished page, inside labeled units that never touch the scores. The two desks do not meet about content, and neither can see the other’s queue. The fee is earned on the click-through, never on whether you buy anything, so nobody here has a number that improves when you do.
Every commercial unit on this site wears the same dress: a red tape edge, the words AFFILIATE LINK, and a flat-fee card. If a link makes us money, you can see it from across the room. Is this site legit?
Fair question. Here is what you can check. Every story names the humans who wrote, edited, reviewed, and fact checked it, in the byline stack at the top of the page. Every ranking prints its weights, its persona, and its data vintage next to the table it governs. Every partner link is labeled at the link, and the fee model is one sentence long. Corrections are published and linked from the story they fix, and the running count sits in the footer of every page.
One more thing you can check: every number on this site is somebody else’s number, on purpose. Rankings copy published scores from J.D. Power, AM Best, and NAIC data, with the vintage stated in the table. Stories cite court records, regulator files, and named press coverage in a source ledger at the bottom of the page. If a figure cannot be traced to a source, it does not run.
Editorial policy
Two independent sources or one primary document behind every factual claim. A denial letter outranks an interview about a denial letter.
When we get something wrong, the correction is published, dated, and linked from the story it fixes. The error stays visible in the record; we do not quietly rewrite.
A person is alleged to have done a thing until a court says otherwise, and we write it that way every time.
AI proposes, never verifies. Drafting tools can suggest; no fact reaches a page without a human checking the document behind it. Every byline is a human who owns every line.
No selling near death. A story about a death this week carries no partner links, no bridges, and no money cards. The grief kill-zone is absolute.

Every story is researched, written, and source-checked by the Peril Desk editorial desk, and every page carries its full source ledger so you can check us line by line. Named bylines with licensed-reviewer sign-off are being added as the desk staffs up; no invented names will ever appear in a byline.
